Clare Lockhart

Clare Lockhart is ISE’s co-founder and Chief Executive Officer is a specialist in law and public administration and trained at Oxford and Harvard. After working as an investment banker and barrister in London, she managed a program on state transition at the World Bank. She was then recruited as a UN advisor in Afghanistan during the Bonn process and advisor to the Government of Afghanistan during the Transitional Administration, designing and managing a series of national initiatives. While still in Afghanistan, she - with Dr. Ghani and a number of colleagues- began to codify this learning and advising high-level policy-makers in other transitional states.

John Kamm, Executive Director, is Founder and Executive Director of The Dui Hua Foundation. A graduate of Princeton and Harvard universities, Kamm was the Hong Kong representative of the National Council for US-China Trade from 1976 to 1981. He was president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong in 1990 and has served as a director of the National Committee on US-China Relations. Since 1990, when he began his advocacy work on behalf of prisoners, Kamm has made more than 100 trips to Beijing and other parts of China in an effort to engage the Chinese government in a dialogue on human rights. For his work in the area of corporate responsibility, Kamm was awarded the Best Global Practices Award by former President Bill Clinton in June 1997. He was also granted the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award by President George W. Bush in December 2001 and a MacArthur Fellowship in September 2004.

A documentary film by Marie Louville, "The Prisoner of Lhasa," introduces the life of the Tibetan nun Ngawang Sangdrol and details how Kamm's work contributed to her release.
